Defining the character of a person is a difficult goal to achieve, especially when facts about that person are distorted due to bias, jealousy, envy or any other issue. The Bible says that we will know people "by their deeds" which goes to the old adage that "actions speak louder than words."

However, in the information technology age, a person's character can be virtually destroyed by the words or comments of someone else. Those words, given relevance and credility by the website or forum on which they were posted, can devastate a reputation even before it is known and the predelection of humans to instant gratification is one of the greatest contributing factors to this phenomenon.

In one instance, after being in a relationship for a few years, a couple broke up and went the separarte ways. However, one part of the couple was so vengeful about the break up that a false business complaint was made to a very popular site, accusing the other person's business of serious allegations, These allegations were false but nonetheless put out there for the world to see. And since the site they used is based on business complaints and has a plethora of content full of optimized keyword phrases, these accusations remain at the forefront of search queries with the name.

In a separate instance, the spitefulness of one person caused them to steal the identity of their partner, thus creating such a serious credit issue that the partner had to deal with some very serious finincial issues. Large, high dollar purchases as well as utility and service bills were purposely incurred to create a hellish nightmare for someone they supposedly "loved".

In the end, it is always a good idea to protect ones interest because one never knows where a possible threat could be and, in essence, we are usually the victim of those closest to us.
